Why are more people experiencing mould damage when using resin?
That said, we’ve noticed a little trend: with more people than ever using resin, we’re getting more questions and concerns about mould damage when using resin. Trust us, we get it. When you’re putting your heart into a project, the last thing you want is for your moulds to get damaged.
How can you prevent mould damage when working with resin?
When it comes to resin casting, it's essential to take proper precautions to avoid damaging your moulds. Here are some tips to help you troubleshoot resin use with IOD moulds:
1. Use a Release Agent
Before pouring resin into your mould, make sure to use a suitable release agent. This will help the resin release easily from the mould without causing any damage.
2. Follow Proper Mixing Ratios
Ensure that you follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing the resin accurately. Incorrect ratios can lead to resin that doesn't cure properly, causing it to stick to the mould and potentially damage it.
3. Handle with Care
When demoulding your resin creations, handle the mould with care. Avoid using sharp objects that could scratch or dent the mould, leading to future issues with resin release.
4. Clean and Store Properly
After each use, clean your moulds gently with mild soap and water. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent any warping or damage.
5. Practice Makes Perfect
Resin casting can be a learning process, so don't be discouraged by initial challenges. With practice and patience, you'll become more adept at using resin with your IOD moulds without causing damage.
Do Not Use Open Flames or Heat Guns
While it might be tempting to use an open flame (like a lighter or torch) to pop bubbles in your resin, this is a no, no! We strongly advise against it. Resin is a chemical product, and using an open flame can produce harmful fumes, cause uneven curing, or even ignite the resin in extreme cases. 🔥 Plus, the intense heat from the flame is likely to damage your IOD moulds.
The same is true of heat guns; do not use them with your resin and IOD moulds.
Instead, opt for safer methods, like letting the resin sit for a few minutes to allow bubbles to rise and pop naturally. Some members of our creative community also recommend lightly spritzing the surface with alcohol to help release bubbles. There are also products made for this. By using these safe methods, you’ll protect both your moulds and your workspace!
** Safety First : When working with resin, following proper safety precautions is important. Wear gloves, use eye protection, and work in a well-ventilated area to protect yourself from fumes and skin contact. Be sure to follow the specific safety guidelines provided by the resin brand you’re using, as each may have different recommendations.
By following these troubleshooting tips, you can enjoy your resin casting projects with IOD moulds while keeping your moulds in excellent condition for future creations. Happy crafting!
